Each day the world is changing in a rapid manner in terms of growth in technology, digitalization of data, globalization in trade, modernization of human thoughts, and so on. All these are undoubtedly delivering positive outcomes to society, but it’s also posing newer threats. The advanced tools when wrongly used by evil minds can lead to criminal activities like drug trafficking, money laundering, theft of intangible assets, computer crime, crime against the environment, etc. Even easy access to internet content in today’s time is polluting human brains. It is igniting offenses like cyber pornography. Apart from this, a few existing forms of sexual offenses which have remained unrecognized are demanding attention in the changing phase. Such offenses are digital rape, marital rape, and many others.

The main issue is are the traditional definition of certain offenses is still applicable in today’s time, how efficient are our existing legal regime is to deal with the up-surging issues, are the known methods of data collection, evidence checks, and precaution mechanisms enough to combat the current situation. Or the time has come that the law and policy will have to formulate newer techniques and updated laws that will protect the masses at large. Alongside the law reforms, there should also be capacity-building and public awareness program likes in this changing time. Steps are required for capacity building of the officials who are assigned with the responsibilities to prevent and protect society from crime and public awareness required for the public in order to become capable of taking precautionary measures. There should also be international cooperation among the nations as criminal activities are never territorial bound and transnational organized crimes are very much prevalent. Bodies United Nations have also identified the newer crimes as ‘Emerging Crimes’ and developed several preventive global programmes in this regard.
